Declaration of generative AI Sources

SEMESTA: Journal of Community Empowerment recognizes that generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support the preparation of scholarly manuscripts. To ensure transparency, accountability, and academic integrity, authors must disclose any use of such technologies during the manuscript preparation process.

The following policy applies only to the use of generative AI in the writing and preparation of manuscripts. It does not apply to the legitimate use of AI or machine learning methods as part of the research methodology, data analysis, or scientific investigation, provided that these methods are fully described in the manuscript.

Authors are expected to observe the following principles:

  • Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used only to improve the readability, language, grammar, or organization of a manuscript.

  • Authors must carefully review, verify, and edit any AI-generated content, as such tools may produce inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or biased information.

  • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and validity of all content submitted for publication, regardless of whether AI tools were used.

  • Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because authorship requires intellectual responsibility and accountability that can only be assumed by human contributors.

  • AI-generated content must not replace the authors' original scholarly contributions, critical analysis, interpretation, or conclusions.

Disclosure Statement

If generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used during manuscript preparation, authors must include a declaration in a separate section immediately before the References entitled:

Declaration of Generative AI Use

The statement should follow the format below:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [Name of AI Tool/Service] to assist with [purpose, e.g., language editing, grammar improvement, or text organization]. All AI-generated content was carefully reviewed, revised, and verified by the author(s), who take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript.

If no generative AI tools were used in preparing the manuscript, no declaration is required.

The routine use of basic editorial software, such as spelling checkers, grammar correction tools, reference managers, or formatting utilities that do not generate original scholarly content, does not require disclosure.

Policy for Editors and Reviewers

To preserve the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and maintain the integrity of the peer-review process, editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any confidential editorial materials to public generative AI or AI-assisted services, including but not limited to ChatGPT or similar platforms.

Editors and reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts independently and to maintain the confidentiality of all unpublished materials in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and the ethical principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The Editorial Board will periodically review this policy as trustworthy and privacy-compliant AI technologies continue to evolve.
