Focus and Scope
Aims
SEMESTA: Journal of Community Empowerment aims to advance knowledge and practice in community engagement by publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed articles that present innovative, evidence-based, and sustainable community empowerment initiatives. The journal seeks to strengthen collaboration among higher education institutions, government agencies, industries, non-governmental organizations, and communities in addressing contemporary societal challenges while contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Focus
SEMESTA focuses on the dissemination of impactful community engagement and empowerment practices that integrate academic expertise with practical implementation. The journal prioritizes manuscripts demonstrating innovation, measurable social impact, participatory approaches, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustainable community interventions that can be replicated and adapted across diverse local, national, and global contexts.
Scope
The scope of SEMESTA includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
1. Community Empowerment and Social Development
Community capacity building, participatory development, social inclusion, community resilience, local governance, and initiatives that improve social welfare and quality of life.
2. Education and Capacity Building
Educational outreach, literacy programs, teacher and community professional development, lifelong learning, digital literacy, educational innovation, and institutional capacity strengthenin.
3. Economic Empowerment and Social Entrepreneurship
Community-based entrepreneurship, micro and small enterprise development, financial literacy, cooperative development, creative economy, and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
4. Health, Well-being, and Community Resilience
Public health promotion, preventive health education, mental health awareness, nutrition, sanitation, disaster preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience programs.
5. Environment, Sustainability, and Appropriate Technology
Environmental conservation, climate change adaptation, waste management, renewable energy, sustainable resource management, green innovation, and the application of appropriate technologies for community development.
6. Digital Innovation and Community Transformation
Digital transformation, artificial intelligence for social innovation, information systems, digital governance, smart communities, digital inclusion, and technology-based solutions for community services.
7. Culture, Religion, and Community Harmony
Community empowerment through cultural preservation, religious moderation, intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, local wisdom, and initiatives promoting inclusive and peaceful societies.
8. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Community Engagement
Community service initiatives that contribute to the achievement of one or more Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education, good health and well-being, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, climate action, and partnerships for the goals.
SEMESTA welcomes manuscripts employing participatory, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and collaborative approaches. The journal particularly encourages contributions that demonstrate measurable community impact, innovation, sustainability, scalability, and transferable best practices capable of informing community engagement policies and practices across diverse socio-cultural settings.
